Peterson FSS one of four finalists for LeMay Published Jan. 12, 2010 By Margie Arnold 21st Force Support Squadron Marketing PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Peterson Air Force Base is one of four finalists for the General Curtis E. LeMay Award for 2010. The award is a special recognition for excellence in force support squadron programming and customer service and is awarded to the best large force support squadron in the Air Force. Peterson AFB won the award in 1993. "The LeMay team will be here Jan. 21 to 24 - just about one week from now - to judge us for best in the Air Force" said Lt. Col. John Silverman, 21st FSS commander. "Though we have very little time to prepare for the evaluation, I am confident that our people will shine because they do such excellent work every single day. With the support of everyone on base, I feel certain that we will dazzle the LeMay team." During its visit, the LeMay team will focus on a long list of items, some of which include the quality and depth of customer service, employee motivation and training, the quantity, quality and execution of programs, management's role in understanding industry trends, and a facility's appearance and equipment. "When the LeMay team arrives for its visit, it will see us on our day-to-day execution of excellent customer service and quality customer programs," said Dan Schofield, 21st FSS deputy director. "Our quality programs excel and have brought us to the level of performance that has made us perfect candidates for the LeMay competition." The award was named in honor of Gen. Curtis E. LeMay who, in addition to his aviation accomplishments, had a life-long interest in the support and quality of life programs provided to Air Force members and their families around the globe.
