Fall is here, along with the Halloween candy season. What many people may not know is that October is also (perhaps coincidentally) National Dental Hygiene Month. This year's theme is "Healthy habits are easier than you think," and focuses on maintaining your oral health while leading a busy, active lifestyle.

The following four "healthy habits" are quick and easy and will go a long way in preventing decay or gingivitis:
  • Brush: two minutes, two times per day with fluoridated toothpaste.
  • Floss: daily.
  • Rinse with mouthwash: look for the American Dental Association seal of approval.
  • Chew: sugar free gum after eating.

Of course, avoiding sugary food and drinks, along with regular dental visits, are a must too.
