PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. – The Peterson-Schriever Garrison, the organization which operates Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, and Thule Air Base has been renamed to better reflect its critical role in the U.S. Space Force.

Following a ceremony held May 23, 2022, the organization is now known as Space Base Delta 1. Space Base Delta 1 provides support to dozens of mission sets, including eight of the newly formed Space Deltas, Space Operations Command, NORAD - U.S. Northern Command, U.S. Space Command, Joint Task Force – Space Defense, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, the 302nd Airlift Wing and more than 100 other mission partners around the globe.

“The new name brings our Colorado Front Range installations into greater alignment with the U.S. Space Force’s operational Space Deltas and Space Launch Deltas,” said Col. Shay Warakomski, SBD 1 commander. “Space Base Delta 1 is postured to enable and empower combat-ready space and homeland defense operations through mission critical global support to protect and defend our nation.”

Base support functions include health care, mission readiness support, communication and information technology, security, civil engineering, fire protection, environmental management, manpower, personnel, logistics, contracting, base services, housing, chaplains, and myriad other base operating support functions.

Space Base Delta 1 also provides operational support to Thule AB, Greenland; New Boston SFS, New Hampshire; Kaena Point SFS, Hawaii; and the Maui Optical and Supercomputing Site on the summit of Haleakala, Hawaii.

The renaming of the agency does not affect the installation names. The Buckley Garrison in Denver was also renamed May 23, and is now known as Space Base Delta 2.
