PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Due to a significant uptick in unauthorized waste disposal within the Recycle Yard, 21st Civil Engineer Squadron will be closing the yard throughout the weekend as well as during the week if it reaches capacity. It is important to note that the Recycle Yard and the large waste/recycling containers dispersed across Peterson Air Force Base are ONLY for the use of government facilities on base and does not include base housing or waste generated by base housing.
Additionally, the following items are NOT AUTHORIZED to be disposed of within the Recycle Yard or within any large waste/recycling container on Peterson AFB:
- Household waste
- Plant debris
- Furniture
- Mattresses and box springs
- Appliances such as washing machines, dryers, ovens, microwaves, etc.
- Televisions and monitors
- Hazardous Waste: oil/petroleum products, flammables, etc.
If personnel need to dispose of items in a safe and authorized manner there are multiple resources available within the local community. Some of them include:
- El Paso County Clean Sweep Household Hazardous Waste Events
- El Paso County Household Hazardous Waste
