PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The U.S. Air Force is well known for its education benefits, but one of the most popular degrees to obtain in the Air Force is an associate’s degree from the Community College of the Air Force.
CCAF recently conducted an in-depth review and update of several CCAF policies affecting award of academic credit.
This review was necessary as CCAF and Air University prepared to complete reaffirmation for accreditation, the process whereby universities and colleges ensure the academic rigor and integrity of their programs.
The CCAF policy changes are now as follows:
- Discontinued 3-skill level internship credit for Air Force Specialty Codes without formal/technical school instruction. Special Duty Internship credit for AFSCs 8AXXX-9S1XXX changed to Special Duty Qualification Training credit and will vary based on training.
- Specialty Intern credit for Journeyman and Craftsman upgrade changed to upgrade training credit for AFSCs 1AXXX – 7SXXX. Airmen will now receive nine semester hours for 5-level upgrade training and 6 semester hours for 7-level upgrade training to be applied in technical elective or program elective. The credit cannot be applied in technical core.
- Discontinued proficiency or “P” credit for AFSCs: 2T3X1, 3E2X1, 3E3X1, 3E5X1, 3E8X1, 3E9X1. Courses that include credits that are not offered by Air University or CCAF affiliated schools will be designated as non-institutional credit.
- Air University Culture and Language courses can no longer be applied towards general education, social science requirement. The two courses can only count toward program elective requirements.
- Credits used in technical education, leadership and management and program electives cannot longer be double-counted in subsequent CCAF degrees
- Removed Physical Education credit for Basic Military Training. Program requirements will be reduced from 64 semester hours to 60 semester hours in the next CCAF catalog
- Discontinued splitting credits, when converting quarter hours to semester hours to form a complete hour, to meet degree program requirements.
Some policy changes were previously implemented April 1, 2020, with full implementation expected by Dec. 31, 2020.
