Missouri Air National Guard visits Peterson

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --  Nine Airmen from the 131st Logistics Readiness Squadron, a Missouri Air National Guard unit, visited from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri to work with the 21st LRS June 3-8, 2019 on Peterson AFB, Colorado.

As part of their annual summer training, the Guardsmen spend two weeks a year doing on-the-job training and gain experience working with active duty military.

The group of Airmen had multiple Air Force specialty codes including: air transportation, ground transportation, logistics readiness officer, traffic management specialist, vehicle and vehicular equipment maintenance, and vehicle management and analysis.

The squadron spent one week at Peterson and one week at Buckley AFB, Colorado.

“We try to see how other units do total force integration missions and see different perspectives,” said 1st Lt. Tara Healey, the 131st LRS logistics readiness officer. “The cross-talk is really helpful for us and is mutually beneficial because we can provide experienced augmentees for the host unit’s mission. Colorado looked like a good place because Peterson has a TFI relationship with reservists and Buckley has a TFI relationship with the National Guard. So these locations were ideal and cost effective for travel.”

During their training, the Guardsmen had the opportunity to work with and learn about new things they don’t have at Whiteman AFB.

“Many of the vehicles here we don’t see at home, so getting to see different types of vehicles and getting hands-on training prepares us for any future deployed or contingency operations,” said Healey.

By the end of the week the 131st LRS was able to help out the 21st LRS with anything from fixing a forklift to helping with air transportation.

“We had the opportunity to work with traffic management, air transportation and logistics plans. We also worked very close with vehicle maintenance,” said Senior Master Sgt. Roney Campbell, the 131st LRS D Flight superintendent. ”We were able to see firsthand what the 21st LRS supports here, compare it to what we do at Whiteman, and have that cross-talk. There are a lot of things that we are going to take back with us from this trip.”
