PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The Installation Voter Assistance office at the Airman & Family Readiness Center on Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, is here to help Airmen exercise their right to vote. Soon, all units will also have Unit Voting Assistance Officers. These UVAOs will assist as well.
The IVAO/UVAO can assist Airmen with registering, requesting an absentee ballot, and notifying your local election officials in your home state of a change of address.
“We assist people with voting who aren’t living in their home state,” said Christina Fornander, Peterson AFB’s Installation Voting Assistance Officer. “We have all the forms necessary to register and vote. We can also help them if their having issues with the Federal Voting Assistance Program.”
If you haven’t registered to vote on FVAP.gov yet, you may still have the chance to vote. You will need to check your State’s voting rules on FVAP.gov or visiting an IVAO/UVAO. Many states will still allow you to register and use a Federal Write-In Ballot to cast your vote!
“All registered Federal Voting Assistance Program users, or those military members that requested a ballot directly from their state, should have received their voting ballot by now,” said Fornander. “If you received your ballot, it should be on its way back to your home state. If you haven’t mailed your ballet, return your ballet as soon as possible. For those members that have not received their ballot, fill out and send in a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot or FWAB today! This is available and easiest on FVAP.gov or visit the IVAO.”
Voting by absentee ballot is easy. FVAP works to ensure service members, their eligible family members and overseas US citizens are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to successfully do so, from anywhere around the world.
“We inform Airmen at Peterson AFB, when they deploy or move, to put in a change of address and register to vote.” said Fornander. “We also remind them of cut-off dates for mailing an absentee ballot as this varies state to state.”
The Peterson AFB Installation Voter Assistant Office is ready to assist and can be reached by calling 719-556- 6141 or visiting Peterson AFB A&FRC at bldg. 350, room 1203.
