Colorado Springs Air Show: 21st Space Wing seeks volunteers

The Pikes Peak Regional Air Show will be held at the Colorado Springs Airport and the 21st Space Wing is looking for volunteers for the Sept. 23-24, 2017, event.

The Wings of Blue parachute team from the U.S. Air Force Academy will skydive from a vintage World War II B-17 aircraft. Additionally, performances by the Air Force Thunderbirds and Warbirds will be featured both days of the event. There also will be static displays from the 21st Space Wing and Air Force Space Command.

“A Kid Zone learning area will offer activities for kids of all ages,” said MSgt. Nathan Langford, 21st Operations Support Squadron deputy airfield manager. “They can get in a 1930s-era N3N biplane and get a simulated flying lesson, build their own paper airplanes and fly them, or draw and color airplanes. There will also be educational exhibits for the older kids.”

“The Pikes Peak Regional Air Show is a two day event at the Colorado Springs Airport,” said Langford, “Volunteers would be greatly appreciated.”

The target for volunteers was set at 350 and the airport currently has 351, 50 of them Airmen from Peterson AFB. Volunteers will assist with ticket sales, food service, information, setup and breakdown, parking lot attendees, and security. With the positive response additional volunteers are still be accepted.

Volunteer days are broken down into setup (9/21-22), air show (9/23-24) and cleanup (9/25). Hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
