Rep. Kevin Cramer, a Republican from North Dakota, visited Cavalier Air Force Station, North Dakota, for the first time, Aug. 18, 2017.

The 10th Space Warning Squadron Spartan’s provided a tour of the facilities of the U.S. Air Force’s only contiguous U.S. isolated location. They also highlighted the critical Missile Warning and Space Surveillance missions conducted from the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System phased array radar.

Cramer was briefed on infrastructure status and key site capabilities. Capt. Victor Guinn, 10th SWS Mission Support flight commander highlighted new and ongoing infrastructure upgrades including a recently awarded unaccompanied member dorm, protection improvements, and numerous quality of life upgrades at the site.

While showcasing the Air Force’s most capable missile warning radar, Capt Daniel Taubenslag, 10th SWS Weapons and Tactics chief, walked Cramer through Air Force Space Command’s shift in operations culture to a Space Mission Force construct. Additionally, Taubenslag highlighted the need to ensure America’s space operators are prepared to defend the space domain against potential adversaries.

Finally, Cramer was able to see the recently constructed 10th SWS Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. When fully operational, the SCIF will allow the crewmembers to access timely intelligence on space and missile threat systems and adversary capabilities.

“Perhaps more so now than any time since the Cold War, bad actors are making this special installation in Cavalier (AFS) pivotal to protecting our nation against foreign adversaries,” said Cramer. “I thank Lt. Col. Hobbs, Capt. Guinn, and Capt. Taubenslag for their incredible hospitality, this facility is in great hands with them at the helm.”

“We were proud to host The Honorable Kevin Cramer at Cavalier Air Force Station, and very much enjoyed highlighting our mission, our outstanding Airmen, and the special role we play in the local North Dakota community to one of our national leaders,” said Lt. Col. Stephen Hobbs, 10th SWS commander.
