A Year at the Top of the World: Leading Pituffik Space Base

U.S. Space Force Col. Shawn Lee holds a baby belonging to an Inuit family as they made their way through Dundas Village for Greenland National Day, June 21, 2025. Greenlandic National Day, locally known as Ullortuneq, coincides with the summer solstice, the longest and brightest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. During this time, Pituffik hosts ceremonial events which include raising the Greenlandic flag, a speech in Greenlandic, Danish, and English, and drum dancing by Inuit elders from Qaanaaq.
