Delta 6 Guardians commended for preventing wildfire
On Dec. 19, 2022, John Forsett, Manitou Springs fire chief, presented letters of commendation to a group of Space Delta 6 Guardians for their actions preventing the spread of a wildfire Nov. 9 near the Manitou Springs Incline. Their actions “prevented further escalation of an incident that would have certainly progressed to involve many hours or days, and multiple agencies from across the region to mitigate,” according to the commendation, preventing increased risk for responders and potential property damage. The Delta 6 Guardians included Capt. Justin Ditter, 1st Lt. Nathanial Akers, Senior Master Sgt. Matthew Anacker, his wife Ashley Anacker, Master Sgt. Kristopher Chesslo, Tech. Sgt. John Mendoza, and Sgts. Daniel Shanks, Dominick Cuervo and Kaivon Webb. The Delta 6 Guardians, stationed at Schriever Space Force Base, provide assured access to space through the $11.2 billion Satellite Control Network and defensive cyberspace capabilities for space mission systems.
