9-8-8: a new lifeline for mental health care
On July 16, 2022, a congressionally designated new dialing code will be implemented to operate through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s network, paring down a 10-digit 800-number to simply three: 9-8-8, similar to the emergency response dialing code, 911. Although nation-wide, 988 will serve as a connection to local, accessible support for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress. (Courtesy graphic)
