Atop a volcano

The dome of one of the optical telescopes belonging to Detachment 3, 21st Operations Group sits high above the cloud layer in Maui, Hawaii. Being perched on the rim of the Haleakala volcano’s crater at about 10,000 feet allows for a clearer view of deep space to carry out the mission of Situational Space Awareness.
