AF Chief of Staff visits Thule AB Airmen
THULE AIR BASE, Greenland - Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, exits his aircraft on the flightline at Thule Air Base, Greenland on Nov. 23. The 821st Air Base Group hosted Welsh as he explored Thule AB and wished Artic Airmen from both the 21st Space Wing and 50th Space Wing a happy Thanksgiving. While there, he gained a better understanding of the unique missile warning and space surveillance and satellite command and control operations missions located 700 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Because of its northern location, Thule experiences constant darkness from November until February, and average winter temperatures range from 13 to 20 degrees below zero, with 85 degrees below zero being the lowest recorded reading.
