HUSAYBAH, Iraq – 24-year-old Lance Cpl. Roger Deeds (right) of Biloxi, Miss., died Nov. 16, 2005, as a result of enemy small arms fire while conducting combat operations against enemy forces during Operation Steel Curtain in Ubaydi, Iraq. Deeds was assigned to Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Deeds’ father Scott works at Cheyenne Mountain AFS.
