PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Col. Michael Burke, 21st Medical Group commander, calls a meeting Dec. 4 with medical team chiefs and discusses the next step in responding to an exercise scenario where influenza developed in the Pacific and swept the country. It was affecting enough of Colorado Springs and the base that all the response elements were swamped. The 21st MDG set up vaccine distribution points at Peterson, Schriever Air Force Base and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, and countered the threat by prioritizing the administration of limited preventive medicine.
