First light
THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – Following months of complete darkness, members of Team Thule celebrate first light Feb. 21 at Thule Air Base. Despite the cold temperatures, part of the first-light tradition includes wearing their finest summer garb. This summer, Thule will see months of sunshine with no night. Thule Air Base, one of the six installations operated by the 21st Space Wing, is located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is home to the world’s northernmost deep-water seaport.
