Bataan Memorial Death March
SANTA FE TRAIL, Colo. — With Cheyenne Mountain in the background, five of the eight Airmen participating in the annual 26.2 mile Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., set out on their final practice march. The march is a yearly event to honor the victims and survivors of the forced march of American prisoners of war in the Philippines during World War II. The Airmen will each be carrying a 35-pound patrol pack full of non-perishable food items that will be donated to a New Mexico food bank. Last year the march produced nearly 14,000 pounds of food for the food bank. (U.S. Air Force photo/Michael Golembesky)
