Thule Air Base annual resupply
THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – The Artic Bay docked at Thule Air Base July 11-16 as part of the base's annual resupply mission. The tanker delivered more than 8.4 million gallons of JP-8 fuel during the 78-hour offload, averaging 107,755 gallons per hour or the equivalent of 165 KC-10s at maximum capacity. The annual summer resupply while the port isn’t frozen is necessary to keep the base operating during the long winter. Thule is located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is one of the six installations operated by the 21st Space Wing. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Shawn Harvey)
