Mark Skalko, 730th Air Mobility Squadron, Detachment 1 commander (right) was the presiding official. Det. 2 is one of three geographically separated Ground Based Electro Optical Deep Space Surveillance units tasked to provide space situational awareness to the United States and allies. As the only GEODSS site in the southern hemisphere, Det. 2 tracks more than 9,000 objects daily and is responsible for more than 55 percent of all deep space tracking. (U.S. Air Force photo)
