BALAD AIR BASE, Iraq -- Staff Sgt. Edward Nicandro, 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron spall unit member, cuts around a spall before pouring a quick-setting concrete here, April 28. Spalls are sections of the runway that crack or split. The spall unit is on call 24-hours a day for any repairs that may need to be done, allowing flight operations to continue.
