Missile defense
(FORT GREELY, Alaska) -- At Monday's press conference, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates talked to members of the media about the Ground-based Mid course Defense system located on the Missile Defense Complex. The two toured the 800-acre site viewing an operational ground-based interceptor and meeting the Alaska Army National Guard Soldiers charged with operating and securing the missile defense system. The 100th MDB (GMD) is stationed at Peterson Air Force Base and is a Colorado National Guard unit assigned to U.S. Space and Missile Defense Command, under the operational control of Northern Command for homeland defense.
