Senior orbital analyst Wayne Slater, 20th Space Control Squadron Detachment 1, Dahlgren, Va., walks Col. Stephen Whiting, 21st Space Wing commander (far left), and Chief Master Sgt. Tim Omdal, 21st Space Wing command chief, through the process of correlating space debris back to a known satellite. The wing leaders visited the site Oct. 20. Breakup and collision avoidance processing are two key ingredients that allow Detachment 1 to conduct precise command and control of the space surveillance network and maintain space situational awareness.
