Earth Day

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Brenda Wasielewski, from the Colorado State Forest Service, directs children from the Peterson Child Development Center as they take turns shoveling dirt to help plant three new Colorado blue spruce trees at the R.P. Lee Youth Center April 22, 2011 in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. Col. Stephen N. Whiting, 21st Space Wing commander, accepted a “Tree City USA Award” for Peterson Air Force Base’s Tree City USA status, which it earned for its forestry program. Peterson AFB has been a Tree City USA since 1994. Colonel Whiting thanked the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron for its work on the base forestry program and called Peterson a flagship base in the Air Force. The 21st Space Wing celebrated Earth Day with a number of events including a trash pickup, energy awareness booths at the BX, and a youth poster contest. (U.S. Air Force photo/Robb Lingley)
