Shuttle Atlantis lifted off July 8 at 11:29 a.m. (EDT) from Pad 39 A at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., marking the beginning of the end of the shuttle program. From launch to landing, the 21st Space Wing helped track the shuttle and any objects that could potentially collide with it, maintaining space situational awareness for the safe and responsible use of space.
