MORÒN AIR BASE, Spain - Col. Jeffrey Flewelling, 21st Space Wing vice commander (center), visited the 21st Operations Group Detachment 4, based at Moròn Air Base, Spain, Jan. 1, to get a first-hand look at how the unit contributes to U.S. Strategic Command’s space control mission of detecting, tracking and identifying all manmade deep-space objects. Detachment 4 is one of the 21st Space Wing’s 39 units, and operates the Moròn Optical Space Surveillance system, a telescope that detects and tracks earth-orbiting objects in deep space. It provides information on man-made objects in deep space, including satellites in geosynchronous and semisynchronous Earth orbit (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Nash)
