Recycling
Bill Morris (front), Blue Star Recyclers president, helps unload a broken dishwasher with the assistance of Nick Moscoso as part of the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron's collaborative partnership to promote recycling, Earth Day, and reducing landfill burdens. The recycling event was April 26 near the Peterson Base Exchange. Phil Chase, Pollution Prevention Program manager for Peterson AFB, said the Earth Day initiative was funded through the base's metal recycling program. The program, at no additional cost to the taxpayer, provides a way for servicemembers to recycle material that otherwise might end up in a landfill. Chase said the base is starting a single-stream recycling pilot program with a select group of buildings on Peterson. The end-state goal of this recycling effort and future programs is to reduce landfill issues and promote jobs and a sustainable environment. (U.S. Air Force photo/Jeff Bohn)
