The 21st Civil Engineer Squadron is replacing existing grass with low-water native grasses at the Peterson West Gate. The project includes improvements to both sides of the fence line and the area around the visitor center and parking lot. These improvements will boost the aesthetic value of the entry point and reduce maintenance costs. As a result of this project, water consumption at the west gate will be reduced by 70 percent. Peterson AFB has already saved thousands of dollars in utility costs by reducing its water usage by 56 percent compared with amounts from last year through similar projects and following a limited watering schedule.
