21st SECURITY FORCES SQUADRON

The 21st Security Forces Squadron focuses on being mission-ready, resilient and air-minded. They are organized, trained and equipped to deliver enduring integrated defense against threats to the Air Force, joint and coalition missions, and are recognized and respected for their air-centric expertise.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
The 21st Security Forces Squadron is responsible for the overall security of the people and property on Peterson Space Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Space Station, Colorado. The squadron has many facilities on Peterson, including the Visitor Control Center, Main SF Facility and Armory, Military Working Dog Facility, Plans/Programs, Reports and Analysis, Investigations and Anti-terrorism, two Logistics and Mobility buildings, and a Base Defense Operations Center.
HISTORY
The squadron was constituted as the 21st Air Police Squadron on Nov. 15, 1952. They were activated on Jan. 1, 1953 at George AFB, California. They then moved to Chambley Air Base, France, Dec. 12, 1954 before being inactivated Feb. 8, 1958. They were activated again May 6, 1966 at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska and re-designated as the 21 Security Police Squadron Sep. 1, 1967, before the squadron was inactivated Dec. 19, 1991. The squadron reactivated May 15, 1992, at Peterson AFB, they were re-designated once more as the 21 SFS Jul. 1, 1997.
During this time, the squadron received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award 17 times.
On 5 April 2019, the 21 Security Forces Squadron merged with the 721 Security Forces Squadron. 21 SFS took over security responsibility for Cheyenne Mountain SFS.
On 26 July 2021, Peterson AFB was renamed Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.
